Achieve all your dreams!

Everyone who’s ever had an email account anywhere knows what spam is.  I found this awesome article today about a convicted spammer who appealed the decision.  The article has some good details, but here are the most interesting points:

  • Using fake emails to get around spam filters was made illegal  by the CAN SPAM law because it doesn’t give the recipient a way to contact the seller.
  • Because spam promotes products and services that are scams, it is not covered by the freedom of speech or interstate commerce clauses in the Constitution.

The spammer mentioned in the article will have to serve nine years, which I figure is the same amount of time that I’ll spend in my lifetime deleting unwanted spam from my inbox.  So it seems like a fitting punishment to me.  On a side note, I only had fourteen new spam messages this morning instead of the twenty-five that I normally get.  So maybe it’s actually making a difference.
